J.W. Mathers Jr.was one of the first men from the Eau Gallie Florida area killed in WWII. He was a Private First Class(PFC}born Dec. 12, 1919 and passed December 1944. He was wounded and captured in the Battle of the Bulge. He died in a prison hospital. Survived by his father Joseph W. Mathers 1894 - 1966. His mother Eula Mathers 1900 - 1972. His wife Clair O'Hare and a child. His mother was a Charter Member of the Auxillary Unit 163; Department of Florida Jacksonville 10 June 1948. Charter hangs in the Dining Room at the Post.
