The Essex Veterans Memorial - The memorial, located in Centerbrook Village, honors the men and women of Essex who served and sacrificed during wartime. It is made of granite and stands approximately eight feet high. It was designed by the noted architechtural firm of Centerbrook Architects. The memorial lists the names of 174 residents who served in "The Great War", ten of whom did not return. Two servicemen were Killed in Action: *Parker VANAMEE, First Lieutenant, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd "Indianhead" Division. Killed in Action during the St. Mihiel Offensive, October 2, 1918. *Charles E. CLARK, Private First Class, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th "Yankee" Division. Killed in Action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, October 22, 1918.
