The City of La Junta and American Legion Post No. 9 joined forces with Boy Scout Troop 232, the second grade chorus from La Junta Primary School and the La Junta High School Band to honor veterans Tuesday at the La Junta Senior Center. State Senator Larry Crowder, Manzanola High School Class of '56, led off the speakers at the dedication of SSG Justin L. Vasquez Memorial Bridge, commending the many patriots who have come from "the heartland of Southeastern Colorado." He said, "From the time of the Revolutionary War, no American soldier who died in action has died in vain. SSG Vasquez did not die in vain. It is our job to see that their memory is respected."..

The American Legion Post 9 color guard led the way in the 1st Annual 4th of July Wet & Dry Parade. The color guard led the parade through the "dry zone" and enjoyed watching everyone get soaked in the wet zone. Other members of Post 9 participated in the entire parade including the ensuing free for all water fight in the "wet zone".
