The American Legion Auxiliary charter was signed March 2, 1935. First Post Meetings

The first Post meetings were held in an old school building. When membership got to be 35 this building proved too small and meetings were held in the old Court House from 1941-1966

Post Chartered

The Cliff Sexton Post 55 in Buena Vista, Colorado was originally chartered sometime in the 1920’s. The organization had difficulties and was re-organized in 1935, with the permanent charter granted December 28, 1937. The Post was named after Ernest Clifford Sexton, a World War I soldier who was from Buena Vista, and now buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Each year the Post holds the annual Memorial Day Ceremony at his grave site. In 1936 members..

New Post Home in 1966

New Post Home in 1966

May 10, 1966
The Post was able to purchase the old Head Lettuce building and the old school building together both buildings were moved to the current city lot that was donated by Post Commander Earl Newcomb. Ground was broken and the two buildings were joined together using all volunteer labor.
