As the researcher and Post 15 Adjutant, I have found there is much to be told about the American Legion Post 15 in its early days. Here are some highlights: Post 15 had a basketball team,football team, An orchestra, and held many dances during these days after the war. All while they continued to honor and serve their fellow veterans in the community. Full story »
Legionnaire Sheriff Frank Smith returns from Kansas City, MO. He reports the veterans were given a royal treatment. While in Kansas City Captain Smith many met many members of his former command, his company composed almost entirely young men from that city and vicinity. On May 1923 a meeting was held at the Loveland Post to form a District within the Department of Colorado. On July 16th the first District meeting was held in Longmont Post 32,aprox 20 miles south of Loveland. Posts in attendance were Ft Collins Post 4, Loveland Post 15, Greeley Post 18, Brighton Post 46 , Boulder Post 10 ,and the Lafayette Post. Full story »

Post minutes indicate that on this day the post had 94 members A great dance was held and brought in $183.00 to go towards the Chamber Commerce for lots for the Armory. They also had discussed the purchase of a wrestling mat. From the beginning Post 15 was very active with a Basketball Team, Football team, a drama group to preform plays at the local theater, and an orchestra and quartet who sang at various occasions. Often I noted through the minutes that they would travel and play against other posts as far away as 30 miles. Full story »

paper clipping from the Loveland Reporter Herald dated July 8th 1937, reads: It's carnival time in Loveland, The American Legion carnival opened here this afternoon for a weeks stay at the fairgrounds. The carnival is the Anderson Schroeder show that includes rides, concessions and other entertainment. They played here for a week last summer. "The Last Squad" of Loveland World war veterans will be organized by the American Legion post of Loveland Tuesday evening , Feb 11th at a banquet for all ex-servicemen of the community in the Community building. Emil P. Leslie Legion commander, said. All ex-servicemen, he said are eligible to become charter members of the "Last Squad" Their names will be placed on the charter which will be placed. with other articles including news papers. pictures, and other mementos in a sealed chest to be opened when only eight war veterans remain. It was reported in the Loveland, Larimer County paper that 12 veterans joined the Legion at the Community building dining room Tuesday night. There was an initiation team from the Longmont American Legion Post 32 who put on the ceremonies. Several brief talks were made about the Legion and its service programs. Initiation of this class brings the membersship to 135 according to Ray Stroch, Adjutant. Those initiated Tuesday night were Orville Jackson, Robert Gibson, Ken Calkins, Andrew W. Ferguson, Gene C. In the Loveland, Larimer county paper: Veterans of Loveland at the annual Armistice Day "Reveille Breakfast" at the Community Building subscribed for nearly $3,000 of the notes which are being issued by the Associated Veterans of Loveland for the site and construction of the Veterans Club house and recreation center. Taken from the minutes of the night of Dec 10th seems that Post 15 Basketball team was up for a game against the Globe Trotters. (From Wikipedia: 1929 Saperstein was touring Illinois and Iowa with his basketball team called the "New York Harlem Globe Trotters." This building, purchased from the government was once located at Camp 202 (A German POW camp located in Greeley CO). This particular building was the camp's cafeteria and movie house. The building was relocated to 305 N. Cleveland Ave. (traveling nearly 20 miles) and is now the new home of the Associated Veterans of Loveland. The Associated Veterans Of Loveland is a combined effort of three organizations, they are: The American Legion post 15, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 41 and the Disabled American Veterans Post 32. "The Last Squad", a formation of members who served in the Great War ( World War I). Each year they would hold a banquet to honor and remember those who have passed, and rejoice with those still among the living. The story goes... At one time members (men) of the American Legion would dress up and strut their stuff. It appears that Post 15 did pretty well in 71.
