Charter of Post 71
Dec 2, 1929
A group of WW1 veterans got together and submitted "Application for Post of the American Legion" on Dec. 2, 1929 to be know as "Criswell-Robinson Post 71". This document was endorsed by Department of Arkansas Commander R. L. Gordon and then by James F. Barton, National Adjutant. Of these veterans, the document included one brother (Joe D. Robinson) of the Post's namesake, Ross Robinson. The "Post Application for Permanent Charter" was dated Jan. 7, 1938..

This stone building was built in 1933-1934 for use by both Criswell-Robinson American Legion Post 71 and Martin Oliver VFW Post 2881 in Cabot, AR. Our research shows this building was a WPA (Works Progress Administration) project. There was a stone marker, that can be seen on the attached photo, on the left corner of the building in front of the pickup truck. The marker says: War Memorial Hut Franklin D Roosevelt Pres. United States..

"Bill" Schoonover was honored with several awards that included, 70 years of Continuous Membership in the American Legion, Legionnaire of the Year for Post 71, a Letter from the Governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, and an Arkansas Senate Proclamation.
